My cat WOULD use it, as she would be in my lap going down every time! I would start when my cat was a kitten, so she’d think that was normal. I am so getting one. “One” being a slide, and a kitty to train on it.
I want it! Can you imagine how easy it would be to get the laundry downstairs? Definitely worth the effort of hauling it up in the first place. And a guaranteed soft landing. XD
1. it’s centrifugal, which isn’t a real force to begin with, and as a reactionary force, it doesn’t really apply here since there is no spinning motion
2. the slide is banked, so the forces of friction (sliding), gravity (banking), resisting reaction forces (side curvature), etc.
3. the slide is not that steep and friction would probably slow most things down since nothing can slide down really smoothly against varnished wood like that… unless the surface is more or less flat and cloth-like in material
4. I’d be more concerned with the support of the slide… where’s the support? It seems to be attached to the staircase on one side only… but if anyone’s heavy, that slide could snap off!
For the slide support, the slide itself looks like a single piece of wood (Or bonded tightly together), attached continuously along the side. It’s a u-shape, and that plus the curl makes it very strong. Unless you’re extremely heavy and leaning on the outside of it, I don’t think it’s going anywhere. It looks way more sturdy than a standard hollow plastic playground slide, to me at least.
You’re on the money about the curved slide being slower. All the added friction from banking is usually what lowers the maximum velocity. I’m guessing it’s another reason why a lot of newer playgrounds use them instead of straight slides, I.E. to keep kids from shooting off the end like a bullet. (Of course, isn’t that what makes slides fun in the first place?)
The solution, of course, is to go down it while riding on a skateboard.
Falling out to where exactly? The bottom three feet? If you notice, the walls and slide are very close together the entire way down, with the exception of the lower few feet. Also, the grade of decent and curves aren’t that large so the speed won’t be a huge issue. My grandson would love it and so would I!
No way is it pine: no visible knots. Also, before it’s treated in some way, pine is very soft; you look at it, and there’s a dent. Furniture companies get around this by “distressing” it so the accidental dents blend in with the intentional ones. In the end that would mean a great deal of potholes in your otherwise beyond-awesome slide. At a guess, I’d call that clear-coated maple, but without a close-up shot there’s no knowing. All I’m sure is is that I WANT IT!
The only flaw in this design is that it doesn’t allow you to lean inwards or stick your right arm out. I imagine that would be annoying. At first glance, it looks awesome though!
oh what fun ….i want one .. my kids would love it and they dont even have to get wet and muddy.. bit more space around it would be best has the windows prob. wouldn’t last long.
I am going to make a pole/slide/staircase model from my roof. Maybe a double helix design would provide a more pure sliding experience… I just realized stairs are only really necessary for going UP. Anyways… nice thinking… http://vimeo.com/5225011
Yeah outside the box!!!
I’m not sure if this should go in the ‘There I fixed it’ section… but I’m sure as hell I want one (but please the finished product, not THIS prototype)
Need this in my house now, my girlfriend will kill me, I’ll spend all my life savings on it, and then find out it’s made for cats and my fat ass doesn’t fit in it. My life’ll be ruined.
All in a day’s work at epicwinftw.com.
Yeah I know, who am I kidding with that “girlfriend” crap…
So want that.
Extremely cool! …as long as the kiddies remember to keep their arms inside the ride.
yeah those stair rails could definately be a left arm breaker.
I meant right arm
WIN! That is so fabulous and EXACTLY what I want in my future home.
Me too!
Beating the kids to the punch.
Awesome. Wonder if the cat uses it?

You’d have the shiniest pant-seats in the whole neighbourhood!
but how is that foosball table going to get any use? lol
You can just slide it out of there.
As a purse-hanger, of course! The best use of most things with poking-out handle-things!
duh, purse-rack.
The Foosball table doubles as a purse rack!
Actually it singles as a purse rack, since it’s useless as a foosball table where it is…
Now you can put on your socks while you’re going downstairs in those I’m effing late to work mornings.
i would use that slide instead of the stairs hell ya
I want it! Can you imagine how easy it would be to get the laundry downstairs? Definitely worth the effort of hauling it up in the first place. And a guaranteed soft landing. XD
I want that house
All I can say is:
Hee!
Did somebody have a bowling ball…
I like how the bottom of the stairs is just as worn as the bottom of the slide… both are well used!!
centrifical force… all those windows… *shudder*

Hehehe… I dunno who else got what you said, but I sure did =P Good work! You think like an engineer
We’ll just put orange oil on our fannies and bomber hats on our heads before takeoff!
Those stairs are spiral, so there is a spinning motion.

having tried this i conclude that the sides are not high enough, you’re in big danger of falling out. ^^

It’s centrifugal in the UK but I think its centrifical in the States.
And surely the slide is a cantilever, just like those floating stairs you get!
Okay I want that in my house, I’d already planned out the perfect ranch house, but I want that so bad, I’ll just have to start over.
My dream house will have that staircase. Only maybe not so close to the windows.
WANT!
Every house needs one of these.
Is that made of pine? How do they manage those curves? Hope it doesn’t splinter.
Nah too uniform, must be some sort of resin compound.

Lets just make sure that no children fly of the slide.
Oh, and only certain people can ride those. Sorry fatties.
Except for the part where your right arm/shoulder keeps hitting the railing.
It does seem to narrow a bit at the bottom.
A lot of marbles and toy cars will be rolled down that for sure.
sooooo cool. is that for grandma?????????
Superb! — And what are those windows up to?
Can’t quite wrap my head around it…
Chutes & Ladders – I always wanted that in my house when I was a kid.
Want! Way better than a fireman’s pole.
I bet the cats love it too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IOh51IcIhM&NR=1 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_PDJjcX43U I can just imagine that when they get used to it, they’d use it when they have their periodic spurts of racing like crazy around the house.
No.
It NEEDS a fireman’s pole right down the middle, THEN a flight of spiral stairs around it, THEN a slide around THAT.
THEN it would be AWESOME.
Yes, it would. Don’t deny it.
I love how you think! Pole+Stairs+Slide=Epic Win!!!
i was thinking literally the same exact thing !
I must remember to have that installed once I get a house.
oh what fun ….i want one .. my kids would love it and they dont even have to get wet and muddy.. bit more space around it would be best has the windows prob. wouldn’t last long.
I want this sooooooo badly. I don’t even have kids.
WANT!
I thought that was the most awesome pictureever…
then I saw the fussball table and my mind exploded XD

Yeah outside the box!!!
Just don’t put your foot through the window!!!
This is made for cats.
really cool!

Ummmmm. I’m waiting for a patent
