Like most things–the book was better. But the movie wasn’t bad.
The movie was meant to be an adaptation, which is why it’s much different from the book. I think both have their merits.

Hmm… there is old Eastern European folktale of a witch named Baba Yaga- she lived in a hut that was on chicken feet, and her hut could run very fast! Which was a good thing, because Baba Yaga’s other way of getting around was hopping along in a mortar, using the pestle as a rudder. Weird, I know, but true!
At any rate, that’s what this picture reminded me of. Either I am too old or too bookish to recognize what the rest of you are seeing. Likely both.
I suggest you read it or watch it then. Many of us bookish types have.
Did anyone notice that that castle has really bad defense of the lower area? If you are quick you get close enough. Now the cannons can’t hit you anymore. Then all you have to to, is destroy one or two feet, and it will start to tip over. WIN
Unless of course Calcifer lowers the castle and crushes you……
but… its magic.

I’m a 52 y.o. grandmother & I love “Howl’s Moving Castle” – saw it on TCM recently. What a terrific movie- the symbolism is so lost on kids- if you only think “Anime” is for them take a look at it!
