If anyone else has seen Kirikou, this reminds me of the tree Karaba tries to kidnap the little kids with. For those who haven’t seen it, the kids see a weird tree and climb it. The branches snap shut to form a cage, and the roots pull up from the ground and the tree slithers away as though each root is a snake.
