I know that took an insanely long time.
From someone who has replicated a missingno. sprite in ASCII art, I KNOW that took a long time.
Mission editor for mario?
Wow…
I hope someone did this with some script.
Otherwise they need a life..
It would be even more impressive if they actually got it to work.
It looks like an image file that was inserted into a spreadsheet.
Each pixel is one row by one column filled with a single color.
If that’s the case, I suppose this qualifies as a new form of folk art. (That, or a newly revealed OCD.)
In any case, at least it’s more permanent than the Etch-A-Sketch artwork, as amazing as some of that is.
You can make Etch-A-Sketch drawings permanent.
With some knowledge of VBA or Office Interop, it would not be difficult to create something like this from an image, although judging by the item placement and the tile alignment, I suspect that this was done by hand with a lot of copying and pasting
Correct me if I’m wrong, but that appears to be 16-bit Mario. The title says 8-bit.
Awesome all the same though.
It’s been done… Millions of times.
Who else thinks this was done AT WORK?
That said, I think I could probably make a program that did that. Bitmap in one side, fart XML out the back-side.
Microsoft Excel 2002 Technical Articles – XML Spreadsheet Reference

That document, or something just like it.
You don’t actually need the proprietary M$ Office SDK McCrap. Just a working knowledge of XML and open source software.
FAIL. This is 16-bit, not 8.
Ah, you beat me to it… I was going to say this!
I hope this was done at work.
Yes! By a air traffic controller on a black listed country
Anyone else realize that Luigi is about to miss that mushroom…what the hell?? With all kidding aside yeah good work
Where do I get this file? It’s awesome!!
O.O
Just O.O
Whomever did this has a serious problem. The problem being that they are TOO AWESOME!
Too awesome or just a really boring job!
This isn’t 8-bit art, it’s 16-bit art. FAIL!
I know there are games you can play with excel such as pac-man, sonic, and tetris. I play sonic all the time.
I’d hate to nitpick this, but aren’t those graphics 16-bit? The title says that it’s 8-bit.
where can I download the actual excel file of this?
Princess wasn’t in Super Mario World
Anyone know where to find this on the interwebs?
Anyone know where to find this file* on the interwebs?

As you can see , it’s not excel , it’s microsoft . So yea …
Nevermind …

sorry to disappoint you all, it’s not manually-drawn it’s an actual mario game imported to excel as an activeX object or a plugin, to work-around companies blocking games on their computers
